TWA #8 – TYKTWD Battle Thread

RagnaRoach: A Remembrance by Daniel Hale

Illuminating Lunatics by Tony Southcotte

godzillaWelcome short story lovers! Today, we bring you a very large contest between titans. Not so much the authors, but the contest itself. This one is called Take Your Kaiju to Work Day, and it comes from the mega-monster-movie addled mind of Albert Berg.

Representing The Writer’s Arena this week is Tony Southcotte. We know his beard and voice can be mighty, but will “Illuminating Lunatics” bring enough frost yetis to win the day?

His opponent, a newcomer to the arena, is Daniel Hale. This Midwestern powerhouse brings you a story of a coastal town and their beloved RagnaRoach. Will he scuttle away with the victory?

Read! Enjoy! Comment and discuss!

We have two judges that will render their decision by Friday. The third vote comes from you, the readers. We ask that you read both stories objectively, and then leave a comment below or on the story itself. Authors aren’t allowed to comment on their own stories, but we’re sure they’ll be checking in here. We’ll tally up the totals and announce our champion on Friday.

On a side note, we are paying our authors a base level rate at the moment, but if you really enjoyed their story and want to help us make sure these awesome people get paid, please donate below. 75% goes to the author, the rest goes to keeping this place up and running.

  1. Yet again, I don’t envy the judges their decision.

  2. Another very challenging bout in the Arena. Great entries from both contenders. As my time is short tonight I will refrain from posting on their respective story threads, but want to take a brief moment to thank both Tony and Daniel for their hard work and creative energy poured into this prompt. Both stories were a blast to read.

I ultimately cast my vote for Daniel’s story for reasons I hope to find time to share in the coming days. But I must add that it’s Tony’s story that I’d like to see turned into a movie, and I’d buy tickets to go see it.

Thanks guys. Another exciting week in the Arena.

  3. This is tense. The votes are going all over the place. Thank you all for your honest appraisal of the stories. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the judges have to say.
