Greetings, short story lovers, and welcome to the mystery prompt.
It is a strange thing to create life, to put the spark of being into what used to be mere matter. And no, we’re not talking about natural birth. We’re talking about golems. We’re talking about Frankenstein. We’re talking about Pygmalion. We’re talking about stories where life is given, by a variety of means, to inanimate material.
This week we asked our authors to tell us a story where someone brings something to life. It can be a mad scientist, an accident of magic, a god’s will, we don’t care. Nor do we care what is brought to life, they could reanimate a school desk if they wanted. All we asked was that they give us a story where inert mass is given life.
Who will win a science award and who will be chased by villagers with pitchforks?
Let’s find out!
The Reanimation Rivalry is on!!
We have two judges that will render their decision next Monday. The third vote comes from you, the readers. We ask that you read both stories objectively, and then leave a comment below or on the story itself. Authors are not allowed to comment on their own stories, but we’re sure they’ll be checking in here. We’ll tally up the totals and announce our champion on Monday.
And remember, if you like one of this week’s stories, vote it up in the new all-time best of list (new stories appear at the bottom).
