Welcome, short story lovers.
The arena has taken on a lot of prompts from all throughout history. We like to examine storytelling and see what authors have been writing about through the centuries.
This week’s prompt, though? Well it is hard to think of anything more modern than this week’s prompt.
This week we have asked our authors to write about the Internet.
It’s possible, we suppose, to look at how information has been exchanged in the past and find some loose parallels between that and the massive interlocking system of computers known as the Internet which has allowed all of us to come together here today. But really, the Internet is just too different, too amazing, too weird, to really have much precedent in the past.
So that’s our author’s challenge. Write us a story which has the Internet at its core, or which makes us think about the Internet in a new way.
Who will surf the net safely and who will have to unplug their router?
Let’s find out!
The Internet Onslaught has begun!
And remember, if you like one of this week’s stories, vote it up in the new all-time best of list (new stories appear at the bottom).
We have two judges that will render their decision next Monday. The third vote comes from you, the readers. We ask that you read both stories objectively, and then leave a comment below or on the story itself. Authors are not allowed to comment on their own stories, but we’re sure they’ll be checking in here. We’ll tally up the totals and announce our champion on Monday.
