TWA #4 This Man – Battle Thread!

thismanThis week “This Man” reigns supreme. Plus we have the odd, yet fascinating, quirk of both stories using the same title. This man just will not get out of anyone’s head.

But that’s a good thing as both of our authors have taken this challenge in stride and produced wildly different, uniquely beautiful batches of prose with which to do battle in the arena.

Fans of the Human Echoes Podcast site will be familiar with our first contender. A denizen of the arena, lover of all things story related, Daniel Brophy weighs in with “This Man.

Challenging him from the state of New Hampshire, the wildly prolific, cagey, and crafty CM Stewart counterattacks with the meta…well…”This Man.”

Read! Enjoy! Comment and discuss!

We have two judges that will render their decision by Friday. The third vote comes from you, the readers. We ask that you read both stories objectively, and then leave a comment below or on the story itself. Authors aren’t allowed to comment on their own stories, but we’re sure they’ll be checking in here. We’ll tally up the totals and announce our champion on Friday the 6th.

On a side note, we are paying our authors a base level rate at the moment, but if you really enjoyed their story and want to help us make sure these awesome people get paid, please donate below. 75% goes to the author, the rest goes to keeping this place up and running.

  1. Just for Clarity, I’m going to put the comments in the other threads as votes here.

Ellie Anne: One vote for Danny
    Heather: One vote for Danny

  2. I’m also going to vote for Danny’s story. Both were perfect for the prompt. Both had style and great voice. Danny’s just took me to a different place, one that I rarely get while reading.

  3. Another week, another set of stories at opposite ends of the spectrum.

I loved CM’s journal approach. Instead of crafting a story about “the same man in everyone’s dreams” she figured out a way to incorporate the real world This Man mythos and add to it.

Danny’s story also touched on someone realizing that This Man has been in several people’s dreams, but was much sadder, and more emotional. I think it may be the most emotionally stirring entry so far in the entire arena, and that’s saying a lot.

    • Yeah, it seems we’ve got a dour literary group here. There might be a bit of precedent for stories that tug at heart strings. We will have to make a more fun prompt.
