Challenge #2 – A Sense of Scale

Who’s ready to for some online short stories? Welcome to the first official Writer’s Arena! This week our challengers will be Joseph Devon and Caleb Newell.

alice drink me

There’s a bit you probably remember from Alice in Wonderland in which our eponymous heroine finds herself in a room with a cake and a vial, labeled “Eat me” and “Drink me” respectively. Of course Alice does, and, this being the mixed up world of Wonderland, we see her grow as tall as the ceiling and then shrink down to a tenth the height she was originally.

But outside of Alice and those Honey I Shrunk the Kids movies, there aren’t many stories that deal with the issue of scale. So that’s your prompt. Write a story which explores changes in size or differences of scale.

Ants vs. Elephants, Attack of the Fifty Foot Poodle, that sort of thing. Get to writing.

(No erotica please, but I can’t be the only one who wondered while watching Monsters vs. Aliens how things would have, um…worked between Susan and Derek if he had actually married her, right?)

Stories will go live on May 21st! Judgement will be soon to follow…

On a side note, we are paying our authors a base level rate at the moment, but if you really enjoyed their story and want to help us make sure these awesome people get paid, please donate below. 75% goes to the author, the rest goes to keeping this place up and running.

  1. Tick, tock, tick, tock….

  2. We needed a way to make sure that we could cover our butts in case someone missed a deadline. It lacks some of the immediacy of the test runs, but we also had to wait a week for Tony’s story to actually show up with those so…

  3. Smart move and it makes sense. I will adjust my deadline related comments accordingly.

    • I might change this soon. Possibly do the announcement thread the day of so authors can get their voices in thread as well.
