2016 Tournament Round VI: Parents

“My Mother, The Superhero” by Donald Uitvlugt

“Padre De Dios” by Thomas Mays

tournament-round-vi-parentsGreetings, short story lovers, and welcome to this round’s mystery prompt.

We’ve explored a lot of different characters in the arena so far, but we rarely decide to focus in on one specific type of relationship.

Well one specific type of relationship is what you’re getting this week, probably one of the most important relationships we have in this world. For some it calls up tenderness and love, for others it can be more problematic, but everyone out there has one. See, we asked our authors to write us a story that explores the notion of mom or dad.

We don’t care if their tale illuminates the bittersweet nostalgia of a father watching his daughter grow up, or if they tell us a story of a boy locked in the basement by his evil mother, they just have to showcase the concept of mom, dad, or both.

Who will bear Cain and who will bear Abel?

Let’s find out!

Donald Uitvlugt enters into the fray with “My Mother, the Superhero.”

Thomas Mays battles back with “Padre de Dios.”

The battle of the Parenthood Prompt is underway!

We have two judges that will render their decision next Monday. The third vote comes from you, the readers. We ask that you read both stories objectively, and then leave a comment below or on the story itself. Authors are not allowed to comment on their own stories, but we’re sure they’ll be checking in here. We’ll tally up the totals and announce our champion on Monday.

And remember, if you like one of this week’s stories, vote it up in the new all-time best of list (new stories appear at the bottom).
